Table of Contents

Pierre Moreau, Bélanger Sauvé’s Managing Partner and member of the firm’s Executive Committee, is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlotte Côté as a lawyer with the firm’s Labour and Employment Law Group. She will be taking up her position on September 11, 2023 and will be practicing in the firm’s Montreal office.

Ms. Côté initially articled in labour and employment law in January 2022 with a management-side law firm to satisfy the École du Barreau’s internship requirement. Upon completing her articling period she stayed on with that firm as a lawyer. She was involved in major mandates, including the preparation of collective agreement negotiating sessions and was responsible for updating a reference work on occupational health and safety.

Starting in December 2022, Charlotte Côté worked as a legal advisor in labour law to the Conseil du patronat du Québec [Quebec Employers Council], a body representing the interests of over 70,000 Québec employers. In that role, she advised stakeholders on various issues related to employment law, labor relations and occupational health and safety. She also drafted arguments to be submitted by Council members appearing as defendants before various adjudicative bodies such as the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail, the Administrative Labor Tribunal and various federal and provincial government agencies.

Ms. Côté holds a master’s degree (LL.M) and a bachelor’s degree (LL.B) from the Université de Montréal and was called to the Québec Bar in July 2022. Her post-graduate studies helped her hone her research and writing skills and develop expertise in the areas of atypical labour relations and psychological harassment in the workplace, the subject of her thesis. She has been the recipient of several honours and distinctions, including for her master’s thesis.

During her studies, Ms. Côté was involved in various extracurricular institutions, notably  with the Syndicat des étudiants(es) salarié(es) de l’Université de Montréal as an active member of its grievance and negotiation committees. She also worked in the mediation clinic of her university and in the legal clinic of McGill University. Currently, she volunteers on the Convention and Gala and Pro Bono Legal Services Committees of the Young Bar of Montreal.

Ms. Côté’s knowledge, expertise and commitment are definite assets for Bélanger Sauvé, and we are delighted that she is continuing her legal career with our firm.
